E-2

Overview

The E-2 nonimmigrant classification allows a national of a treaty country, who invested or is investing a substantial amount of capital in a U.S. business entity, to be admitted to the United States to develop and direct the operations of that business. Spouses and unmarried children under 21 years of age of principal E-2 treaty investors or employees are eligible for E-2 dependent visas.

See U.S. Department of State's Treaty Countries for a current list of countries with which the United States maintains a treaty of commerce and navigation
